Our Consortium

The Genetic Disorders of Mucociliary Clearance Consortium (GDMCC) was a collaboration of eight clinical research centers across North America dedicated to advancing the understanding of rare disorders that impair airway defense and mucociliary clearance, particularly primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). Over more than two decades, the Consortium enrolled over 1,400 individuals with suppurative airway diseases, including more than 800 people with PCD, creating one of the largest and most comprehensive research programs in the world focused on this rare disease.

Through multidisciplinary collaboration, the GDMCC transformed our understanding of the genetics, diagnosis, clinical manifestations, and natural history of PCD. Consortium investigators produced more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 300 scientific presentations, helping establish modern standards for PCD diagnosis, research, and clinical care. These efforts laid the foundation for current and future clinical trials and have directly influenced patient care worldwide.
